Wyclef Jean will put his music career on hold as he is expected to announce his bid for presidency for Haiti some time next week. The 37 year old is currently an ambassador under the Haitian government. His former refugee band member Pras is backing another candidate which may put the two at conflict.
His family yesterday said in a statement: “Wyclef’s commitment to his homeland and its youth is boundless, and he will remain its greatest supporter . . . At this time, Wyclef Jean has not announced his intent to run for Haitian president. If and when a decision is made, media will be alerted immediately.”

Update;
**One day after it was reported that Wyclef Jean would run in the next Haitian presidential election, The Smoking Gun reported Wednesday that the musician owes the Internal Revenue Service more than $2.1 million.
The IRS reportedly hit Jean with a $724,332 tax lien this past May, one of multiple liens tied to Jean’s individual 1040 returns dating back to 2006.
The federal tax liens are against his current residence, a $1.85 million home at 8 Cameron Road in Saddle River. Jean, whose birth name was Nel Wyclef Jean, has lived in the home with his wife Claudinette and family since 1998 when he bought it.**
