Yesterday (Thursday) I attended the public wake for legendary rapper Heavy D in Mount Vernon, Ny at Grace Baptist Church. He was wearing a grey suite and was placed in a bronze open casket. Large photos surrounded the casket. Out of respect I didn’t take any photos accept the one’s you see. Besides we were told to turn off all cameras and videos by police. The only celebrities I saw were Marlon and Shawn Wayans around 11:30 am.
Heavy D leaves behind a beloved 11 year old daughter Xea Myers who he simply adored, his mother and two siblings. The rapper, born Dwight Arrington Myers, died Nov. 8 after collapsing inside his California home. He had sought treatment for flu-like symptoms the day before, but a cause of death has not been determined.
Mourners lined up by the hundreds out in the rainy weather to pay their last respect. Today is the private funeral where celebrities and big music executives are expected to be in attendance. It starts at 11:00 am and i will keep you updated.

President Obama sends letter full of words of encouragement read by rev Al Sharpton.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences at this difficult time. He will be remembered for his infectious optimism and many contributions to American music. Please know that you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers,” read the Obama note.
Xea Myers, Heavy D‘s 11-year-old daughter, also spoke briefly, telling the audience that her father was “still here, not in the flesh, but in the spirit.”
