Jay Z’s got 99 problems and Barneys is the biggest one! *chea*
Jay inked a multi-million dollar contract to design a line of exclusive products for Barneys that will be available next month. However Barneys is being accused of racial profiling by young a teen named Trayvon Christian. Trayvon went into Barney’s to purchase a Salvatore Ferragamo belt $350.00 belt after seeing his favorite rapper Juelz Santana rocking the same belt in a music video.
The Post reports that the 19-year-old was at the store buying a $350 Salvatore Ferragamo belt, but following the purchase, he was stopped by undercover officers that were allegedly called on by a Barneys sales clerk who believed the transaction was fraudulent.
The lawsuit, which was filed Tuesday in Manhattan Supreme Court, states that the NYC College of Technology freshman was asked by the cops: “how a young black man such as himself could afford to purchase such an expensive belt?” He was then handcuffed and taken to a local precinct.
Despite showing the officers the receipt for the belt, his ID and the debit card used, “Christian was told that his identification was false and that he could not afford to make such an expensive purchase,” Palillo said.
The deal was struck before the Daily News revealed this week that two black shoppers accused Barneys and the NYPD of racially profiling them as they legitimately purchased expensive items in separate incidents at the flagship store on Madison Ave.
Christian, who saved up money for the pricey accessory from his part-time job at college, said he returned the belt and never plans to shop at the Madison Avenue store again.
a petition on Change.org launched yu Derick Bowers is asking Hov to “End all partnerships with Barneys New York.” He says that he’s a “lifelong Jay Z fan” but “Jay Z should be appalled by Barneys actions, and withdraw all support from them.”
