Don’t expect to see center Chris ‘Birdman‘ Anderson suiting up for the rest of the playoffs. The Denver Nuggets excused him indefinitely from all team activities after Douglas County sheriff deputies entered and searched his home on Thursday afternoon before Denver’s game six first round match up against the Lakers.
Birdman’s home was raided by Douglas County Sherfiff’s office and they seized some “property” related to child pornography from his home in Colorado.
Mark Bryant, Andersen’s longtime lawyer and confidant, released a statement to The Denver Post calling the Nuggets player an “outstanding member of [the Denver] community.”
“I believe in Chris. I would ask the citizens of Colorado to give Chris his due,” Bryant said. “Like every one of us, he is presumed innocent. At the end of the day, I am confident it will be shown that he did nothing wrong.”
Andersen’s attorney, Colin Bresee, referenced a young woman who wanted to get back at Andersen for his apparent lack of interest in her in 2011. She allegedly threatened to retaliate if he didn’t offer her financial relief.
According to the statement, someone claiming to be the woman’s mother wrote in an email, ” ‘i (sic) want him to pay for everything on her Amazon wish list, 5K for her bedding stuff and her victoria secret wish list.”
The statement also read, “Professional athletes are routinely targeted by these types of individuals,” and the investigation is expected to take three weeks.
Birdman hasn’t been arrested or charge with a crime.
