0Nicki Minaj Covers Billboard Magazine As Geisha
Nicki Minaj is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Billboard magazine. Young Money’s Princess will be releasing her debut album, ‘Pink Friday’, on November 22nd.
On The cover, the magazine labels Nicki Minaj “the First Lady Gaga of Hip Hop”, and claims that she borrowed a page out of Lady Gaga’s book when she named her fans “Barbz”. Nicki took to her twitter to clear up some things will billboard.
I didn’t “borrow a page” out of anyone’s book. i’ve been calling my fans barbz way b4 i’ve ever heard any1 b called a “monster”
its funny how ppl jump to conclusions. maybe a lil black girl from queens couldn’t think 2 call her fans barbz on her own. go figure
that was in reference to the billboard mag cover story. (a story i absolutely love but i felt the need to clear that one little thing up)
i was underground for a very long time. ppl seem to think i popped up yesterday & started calling my barbz “barbz”. its unfair to assume
its ok 2 give everyone their individual props. no need to lump them all into 1. it undermines the work i’ve put in. the work my fans put in
On get kicked out of Young Money in 2009:
Minaj credits mentor Lil Wayne for sparking that fire in her. After she dropped out of the second leg of Wayne’s 2009 I Am Music tour, he kicked her out the crew — a turn of events that wasn’t made public. “I started to record by myself and I lost track of what I was doing and who I wanted to be,” she says. “It wasn’t until I linked back up with Wayne that he gave me this speech. He said, ‘What happened? You were hot,’ and it just hurt me so much. I wanted to prove to him that I was still hot. It hurt my ego so bad that I went back with a vengeance.”
On Jay-z noticing her mic skills:
Even Jay-Z took notice, making a suggestion for her verse. “I had never met Jay at that point,” Minaj says, “but he told Robin Thicke that if I did the song I should say, ‘I be, I be, I be, I be, I be on that money shit.’ So I took that line and just ran with it.”

Nicki Minaj speaks on her “Monster” collaboration, envious female rappers & fear of failure in YRB Magazine. Check out a few excerpts :
On “Monster” Being The Pivotal Moment In Her Career
That has to be the breakout Nicki Minaj moment. That was my moment “People paid attention because of who was on it and because I held my own and I stayed true to my crazy animation, and it’s like I didn’t have to take my fun stuff out. I was able to incorporate Nicki Minaj on a record with Jay-Z and Kanye West. And I think people know that’s a difficult task in itself.”
On Female Rappers Who Don’t Support Her
These girls aren’t mad at me. They’re mad at themselves,” she states, shooting down questions on why she never took Kim’s bait. “[It’s] jealousy, insecurity and being broke. When you haven’t capitalized and you see I’m about to capitalize on this sh*t like it’s never been done before, then you’re mad at yourself.
On being afraid to release her album
I was so afraid to put out an album for fear of failure. I wanted to put my album out on Valentine’s Day of 2011. And my label was like, are you f*cking crazy?”On Pink Friday
I know that Pink Friday is a classic album. I have never been this proud of anything in my life,” she says. “I just think that it’s such a dynamic body of work. I’m no longer afraid to drop it. Now, I know it’s time.

Trinidad StandUP
Nicki Minaj decided to take it back to her roots by performing in Trinidad, her hometown, Saturday night. She lived in Trinidad with her grandmother until age 5 when she moved to Queens, New York. Fellow Trinidadians greeted Nicki with an out pour of love at a local mall.
“I want to eventually bring Trinidadian music and culture to the world,”Nicki told press including Trinidad and Tobago’s Newsday. “If any of you have anything you want me to promote, get it to me.”
Carol Maraj, pictured above, admitted even she was taken aback by her daughter’s rise to stardom. “She has always been talented but this success still takes me by surprise,” she said.
“I was always called Nicki at home so I was known as Nicki Maraj, but my first producer did not like Maraj and thought Minaj sounded better,” she revealed. “I still hate the name and I was going to go back to Maraj on the album, but people told me no because my fans like it.”
